Effective May 7, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revised guidelines for work permit applications at ports of entry. The new regulations specify that while most foreign nationals must apply for work permits from outside Canada, certain groups retain port-of-entry application privileges. These include US citizens and permanent residents, professionals under specific Free Trade Agreements, and eligible truck drivers with pre-existing work permits. The update aims to streamline the application process and clarify eligibility criteria for both IRCC and CBSA officers.
