A new study released by Statistics Canada reveals that international students who complete their highest level of education in Canada demonstrate a more substantial alignment between their field of study and subsequent employment after becoming permanent residents. According to the 2021 Census data, 47.9% of former international students with Canadian credentials work in STEM fields matching their education, compared to just 30.1% of immigrants without Canadian study experience. The alignment was particularly pronounced in health care (57.5%) and advanced degree programs, while business administration graduates showed lower alignment rates than their Canadian-born counterparts.
