B.C. launches review to save public post-secondary education system

The government of British Columbia has launched an independent review to strengthen the public post-secondary education system and ensure its long-term sustainability. Ministry of Post‑Secondary Education and Future Skills says institutions in B.C. are under severe financial pressure due to reduced international student permits, inflation and declining domestic enrolment — leading to widening gaps between revenues and expenses. The review will deliver recommendations by March 15, 2026, to help stabilize the sector in the short term and build a sustainable, resilient post-secondary system.  Areas under scrutiny include governance and operations, program delivery efficiency, and financial sustainability across institutions. The goal is to ensure that B.C.’s post-secondary institutions continue delivering high-quality programmes aligned with labour-market needs, while maintaining accessibility and affordability for students.
