New statistics show mixed travel numbers for April 2026

Statistics Canada released new data showing mixed trends for international travel in April 2026. Trips to Canada by United States residents rose 6.9% year over year to 1.5 million visits. This growth was driven by a 6.8% increase in automobile trips and a 7.8% jump in air arrivals. In contrast, overseas resident arrivals fell 6.7% compared to the same month last year. This drop was led by fewer visitors coming from Europe and Asia. For Canadians travelling abroad, return trips from the United States grew by 1.8% over the previous year.
