IRCC modernizes DNA testing procedures: New guidelines enhance citizenship and immigration processes

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has comprehensively updated its DNA testing framework, effective September 5, 2025. The revised guidelines now feature separate processes for citizenship and immigration applications, introducing virtual witnessing capabilities at select IOM offices worldwide. Key improvements include standardized results documentation in the Global Case Management System (GCMS), clear protocols for handling positive or negative test outcomes, and enhanced procedural fairness measures when applicants decline testing. These changes aim to streamline genetic relationship verification while maintaining testing as a voluntary, last-resort option.
