Canada's labour market faced challenges in July 2025 as employment fell by 41,000 (-0.2%), primarily affecting full-time positions (-51,000) and bringing the employment rate down to 60.7%. Youth aged 15-24 bore the brunt of job losses (-34,000), with their unemployment rate reaching 14.6% – the highest since 2010. While the national unemployment rate remained steady at 6.9%, key industries, including information/culture/recreation (-3.3%) and construction (-1.3%), experienced significant declines. Saskatchewan emerged as the only province with employment growth (+0.6%), maintaining Canada's lowest provincial unemployment rate at 5.0%.
