Canada's global education appeal faces challenges as student preferences shift

Recent global education trends reveal a significant transformation in international student preferences, with Canada experiencing notable challenges in maintaining its position among traditional leading destinations. According to the Global Enrolment Benchmark Survey, conducted between January and March 2025, Canada joins other "Big Four" nations in seeing declining enrollment numbers while alternative destinations in Europe and Asia gain momentum. A striking 93% of Canadian universities reported visa-related difficulties as a major concern, with two-thirds anticipating budget cuts in the coming year, signalling a crucial turning point in global higher education dynamics.
