Canada reports a 3.3% increase in average weekly earnings for July 2025

Statistics Canada reports that average weekly earnings rose to $1,307.86 in July 2025, representing a 3.3% increase from the previous year. Payroll employment experienced a modest uptick of 21,600 positions (+0.1%) after a decline in June, although overall employment levels have remained relatively stable since January 2025. The health care sector demonstrated the strongest employment growth (+14,900), while the manufacturing sector continued to experience contraction (-4,600). Concurrently, job vacancies declined by 4.2% to 469,900, resulting in an unemployment-to-job vacancy ratio of 3.3 — the highest level recorded since January 2017, excluding the pandemic period.
