Canada records a 2.1% increase in non-resident visitors for May 2025, despite declining US and overseas arrivals

According to data released by Statistics Canada on July 23, 2025, the number of non-resident visitors entering Canada reached 2,310,414 in May 2025, marking a 2.1% increase on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis. Despite this monthly gain, year-over-year figures show concerning trends, with US resident trips declining 5.6% and overseas visitor arrivals falling 6.6% compared to May 2024. Meanwhile, Canadian residents continued to reduce their international travel for a fifth consecutive month, with trips abroad decreasing by 3.1% in May. The data reveal shifting travel patterns as both US-resident arrivals by automobile and Canadian return trips experienced significant year-over-year declines.
