Canada's population declined in the first quarter of 2026 as immigration slowed
According to Statistics Canada’s recent report, Canada's population decreased in the first quarter of 2026. The total population fell to 41,417,056 on April 1, 2026. This represents a drop of 55,025 people from January 2026. The decline is due to lower immigration targets and a drop in the number of temporary residents.
