Report highlights rapid increase in immigrant earnings compared to Canadians

A report for the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer of Canada indicates that immigrants' incomes are growing faster than other Canadians. Between 2014 and 2018, their relative income increased from 55% to 78% compared to all Canadian tax filers. This growth was particularly strong among immigrants from Asian countries and those with higher education in professional occupations. Pre-existing family networks and prior work experience in Canada as temporary foreign workers or students boosted their incomes. The report also notes that the increase in income coincides with an increase in immigrants with family ties in Canada, suggesting the importance of social networks.
