On May 28, 2025, the Ontario government introduced the Working for Workers Seven Act, bringing major reforms to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This legislation aims to fight immigration fraud, protect vulnerable applicants, and improve transparency and fairness. One key update allows OINP inspectors to require in-person interviews with applicants to verify information. The Act also gives the government authority to create or remove specific OINP streams based on labour market needs. Applications that no longer align with job demands or raise fraud concerns can now be returned. Employers will benefit from a new online portal launching in summer 2025, which will allow them to submit applications directly and electronically. These changes highlight the growing importance of preparation, compliance, and alignment with current labour market trends. Prospective applicants should stay informed and adjust their plans accordingly.
