Canadian brain drain slowing: Study reveals significant decline in migration to U.S.

Statistics Canada reveals a significant 30% decline in permanent migration from Canada to the United States since the late 2000s. The research, conducted by Feng Hou, Milly Yang, and Yao Lu, indicates that while Canada historically experienced net population losses to the U.S., migration flows have balanced since 2018. Foreign-born Canadian citizens now represent 60% of those seeking U.S. employment certification, with highly skilled workers in tech and engineering commanding median salaries of $137,000. The findings highlight changing international talent mobility patterns between the neighbouring nations.
