Canada is deepening its global economic ties through a new strategic partnership with the European Union. On July 11, Minister Mélanie Joly met with Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, to advance the Canada–EU Strategic Partnership of the Future. The initiative, launched during the June 23 Leaders’ Summit in Brussels by Prime Minister Mark Carney, aims to foster innovation, create jobs, and promote stability across both regions. Joly and Séjourné agreed to finalize a joint work plan in the coming weeks and committed to meeting again soon to advance shared priorities. Both emphasized economic diplomacy as a means of fostering resilience and sustainable growth. Canada and the EU also signed a Security and Defence Partnership, which lays the foundation for ongoing cooperation in global security matters. These efforts mark a significant step toward strengthening international collaboration amid growing global challenges.
