Quebec Chamber of Commerce Calls for 106,000 annual immigrants to address critical labour shortages

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec (FCCQ) is urging the provincial government to welcome at least 106,000 new immigrants annually to address the looming labour crisis. According to the Ministry of Employment data, Quebec must fill 1.4 million positions by 2033 due to retirements and insufficient workforce entrants. This figure starkly contrasts with the Legault government's proposed maximum of 45,000 permanent residents yearly. FCCQ President Veronique Proulx warns that maintaining current immigration thresholds could force business closures, despite technological advancements that cannot fully replace human workers.
