Income growth in Canada: StatsCan report highlights 2023 trends

In May 2025, Statistics Canada released a report showing that the median after-tax income for Canadian families and individuals rose 1.2% to $74,200 in 2023, driven by higher market income, while government transfers declined slightly to $10,000. Alberta and Ontario reported the highest incomes, while Nova Scotia and New Brunswick had the lowest. The poverty rate remained stable at 10.2%, with senior poverty dropping to 5.0% but rising slightly for non-seniors to 11.6%. Nunavut had the highest poverty rate at 43.4%, despite the Northwest Territories having the highest median income at $102,100.
