Caps on study permit applications elevate the importance of smaller source countries

Canada’s caps on study permit applications elevate the importance of smaller sources of international students. In the first five months of this year, countries like Columbia, South Korea, Vietnam, Ghana, and Nepal climbed in rankings as significant sources of international students to Canada. India remains the largest contributor, with 278,335 new permits last year, followed by China, Nigeria, and the Philippines. The cap aims to reduce the influx of new international students by 40%, targeting 292,000 approved applications by year-end.
