Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab has refuted claims about Canada's immigration progress, citing concrete data showing reduced numbers in both permanent and temporary resident arrivals. According to official figures, Canada welcomed 246,300 new permanent residents in the first seven months of 2025, with over 100,000 being former temporary residents. The country is on track to meet its reduced target of 395,000 new permanent residents this year, a 21% reduction from 2024. Additionally, data shows 125,903 fewer temporary workers and 88,617 fewer students arriving compared to the same period last year.
